Strategy Sprints
are split into three facilitated sessions with the organization’s staff and available board of directors. It is extremely important that staff are included in the sprints because they are ultimately responsible for doing the work. Prior plans are used to populate the fields prior to the Strategy Sprint. A few weeks before the sprint HatchForm will send out a documents request for past planning activity and other relevant information. A week before the Sprint HatchForm will send out a worksheet packet which explains all of the work that will be completed during the sprint and an invitation to join our planning group. Sprints are broadly divided into four phases outlined below.
Phase I: Defining Your Core Purpose
VALUE STATEMENT: define organizational & community values
BOUNDARY STATEMENT: define geographic area where work is concentrated
FUNCTIONS: clear Categories to group and organize organizational responsibilities
OUTCOMES: primary desired changes and shifts the organization seeks to accomplish
Phase III: The Strategic Framework & Network Mapping
COMPETENCIES: measure your organization against objective standards to ensure maximum value delivery.
DRIVERS: identify your unique advantages and organizational strengths that can be leveraged for faster progress.
FUNCTIONS: clear Categories to group and organize organizational responsibilities
NEEDS: define the requirements of the community and the organization internally
NETWORK: map the ecosystem, programs, processes that define the organizations influence and resource landscape
Phase II: Assessing Current & Desired Conditions
INFRASTRUCTURE: physical (buildings, broadband) and Programmatic systems.
EXPERTISE: human capital, staff and volunteer knowledge, and accessible external resources.
FUNDING: internal (generated) and External (grants, donations) financial resources.
INPUT: guiding documents, plans, legislation, and policies that inform your work.
Phase IV: Priority Setting & Action Work Plan
PRIORITIES: we synthesize all data to develop focused Priorities.
ACTIONS | WORK PLAN: the final deliverable is an actionable, staff-aligned roadmap:
Actions: The tactical, detailed steps your organization will take to implement priorities and achieve outcomes
Work Plans: developed to track progress, assign duties, and align staff/volunteers on responsibilities and timelines
